Bhubaneswar: After missing several deadlines in the last two years, Utkal University of Culture has finally got its permanent campus at Madanpur near Jatni on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
Chief Minister Naveen Patanik and Governor S.C. Jamir inaugurated the new campus here on Monday. Ashok Chandra Panda, State Tourism and Culture minister was also present at the occasion.
Sources said the state government had provided 45 acres of land for the new campus of the varsity that took three years to complete at a cost of Rs 60 crore.
The new campus has all modern amenities, including hostel facilities for students to provide a good academic environment, which the students had been demanding for the last couple of years.
Classes will begin at the new campus from next year, sources added.
It may be recalled here that President Pranab Mukherjee, during his visit to Odisha in November 2014, was supposed to inaugurate it, but that did not happen as the construction was not over.
The old campus of the varsity located at Unit-II will now be used as a research centre.
The Utkal University of Culture was established in 1999 to preserve, promote, propagate and protect the cultural heritage of the state.
