Criminal injured in police encounter dies

Berhampur: A criminal, who was injured in a police encounter near Baghua forest under Buguda police limits on Saturday, died while undergoing treatment at MKCG hospital here today. The deceased has been identified as Srikant Rana.

Earlier, two criminals- Srikant Rana and Gaura Swain were injured in the exchange of fire with cops. The duo was initially rushed to Buguda hospital and later shifted to MKCG hospital.

According to reports, Srikant and Guara had sustained bullet injury on their legs in the exchange of fire.

Though the exact reason behind Srikant’s death is still unclear, it is suspected that he might have died due to ‘excess bleeding’, senior police sources said.

The deceased Srikant hails from Bharatpur area in Bhubaneswar while his accomplice Gura is from Mudulipali in Bhanjanagar.

Several criminal cases including extortion, loot, kidnapping, bombing are pending against them at various police stations in the State.
