Criminal arrested after police encounter

Berhampur: After being on the run for the last few years, Babu Nayak, a wanted criminal was nabbed following an exchange of fire with police here on Thursday.

Senior police officials claimed that Babu was involved in more than 40 cases of robbery and carried a bounty on his head. Babu has sustained bullet injury on his leg and has been admitted to Bhanjanagar hospital following the encounter.

A pistol, live ammunition, crude bomb, detonetors and nearly one kg worth gold ornaments has been seized from his possession.

According to reports, police intercepted Babu near Pathargad road by a team of Tarasingh police today.
