Cuttack: The Crime Branch of Odisha Police will appeal for a five-day remand of arrested Dr Motilal Gouda, the suspended assistant director of the Directorate of Factories and Boilers (Medical), in a court tomorrow for further investigation into the case, said Special DG BK Sharma here on Sunday.

Informing media persons about the arrest of Gouda from Vizinagaram in Andhra Pradesh, Sharma said, “He will be produced in the court tomorrow where the Crime Branch will ask for a five-day remand.”

“After rejection of his anticipatory bail plea, Motilal hid at many places of Odisha and later escaped to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh where he was also hiding at different places. A four-member special team led by IG Arun Bothra was camping there and tracking Gouda's movements since past four days. Today he (Gouda) was arrested,” he added.

Sharma said, a case was registered on June 6 against Gouda on the charges of forgery, cheating, criminal conspiracy and disappearance of evidence with the Crime Branch.

“Gouda, along with others, had hatched a criminal conspiracy by issuing a gazette notification after falsifying it thereby causing financial loss to the State government and gain to some private firms,” Sharma said.

“To destroy evidence, he (Gouda) entered the computer room and manipulated the files and took away some government documents,” the Crime Branch Special DG added.

In the same case, three persons, a broker and two laboratory owners, were arrested earlier by the Crime Branch.
