Bhubaneswar: A three member team of cyber cell of State Crime Branch has left for Berhampur today to probe into WannaCry Ransomware attack at Berhampur city hospital. The investigating team headed by inspector Anil Anand will also visit Purusottampur CHC in Ganjam district.

Computers at Berhampur City hospital and Purusottampur Community Health Centre (CHC) were hacked by the Ransomware virus WannaCry yesterday. All data in computers of Purusottampur CHC have been encrypted and 300 dollars have been demanded to decrypt the same.

Similarly, the virus has paralysed two computers at Berhampur City hospital. The data in the computers of the coordinators of e-Aushadhi portal and Hospital Information Management System (HMIS) have been encrypted. The officials came to know about the virus two days after the attack.

The Crime Branch took over the charge of investigation into the virus attack case from Ganjam police yesterday. Special DG Bijay Kumar Sharma informed about the probe being under taken by the cyber cell of CID Crime Branch through his twitter account.

“FIR filed by ADMO(Medical) of Berhampur has been registered inter alia under sections 65/66 of Information Technology Act and 385 IPC”, he mentioned in his micro blogging site.
