Bhubaneswar: Aimed at preventing the arrested D-brothers to further operate their crime syndicate from behind bars, Commissionerate Police on Friday shifted gangster Sushant Dhala Samanta to Bolangir jail amid tight security arrangements.
The decision comes after the Cuttack judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court here on Thursday allowed the Commissionerate police to shift the gangster from Jharpara jail.
The move has come as a huge relief for the police and jail department officials. Earlier, Sushant was shifted from Chowdwar jail to Jharpara due to security reasons as he was lodged along with his Sushil Dhala Samanta in the same jail.
The police had made the prayer to shift the gangster to some other jail far away from Jharpada after it was found that Sushant was running his criminal activities with ease from the jail.
During investigation into the attempt to murder case of one Bijan Pal, one of the aides of the notorious D-brothers, Cuttack police had found that Sushant had hatched conspiracy to eliminate Pal and three other contractors, from inside the jail after they refused to pay extortion money.
Sushant was earlier arrested along with his brother Sushil Dhalasamanta in 2016 on charges of carrying out widespread network of criminal activities.
Police had subsequently moved Court seeking permission to keep the two gangster brothers in separate jails in the State as it was not safe to keep the duo in a single jail in 2016.
