Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Monday said it will probe why a lady police officer went to the house of Pankaj Mahakud, son of Champua legislator Sanatan Makhakud, to record his statement in connection with a torture case filed by woman claiming to be Pankaj's wife.
A few days back, lady police officer Bijayini Malla of the Mahila Police Station here had visited Pankaj’s home in Keonjhar district to record his statement in the case, after he failed to depose before the police. The police had served a notice on him and asked him to physically appear in the Mahila Police station and record his statement within 15 days.
“We will investigate the matter and see under what circumstances the investigating officer (IO) visited his (Pankaj) house to record statement,” Police Commissioner YB Khurania said.
“I will personally look into the matter,” he added.
Police sources said, the IO will be questioned in the matter since Pankaj broke the law by not turning up before the police to record his statement.
“It will also be probed whether any higher officer directed her to visit Pankaj’s place and record his statement or she had gone on her own,” an investigating officer said.
On March 1, Kabita, who claimed to be the wife of Pankaj, had filed a case of physical and mental harassment against the Champua MLA here. Based on her complaint, a case was registered under Sections 498 A, 341, 294 and 34 of the IPC at the Mahila Police Station.
