Bhubaneswar: Hours after his arrest, actor Pupinder was granted bail by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in connection with a cheating case.

Earlier in the day, the Commissionerate Police arrested the actor from his Hanspal house on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar in a cheque bouncing case.

The arrest was made following non-bailable warrants (NBWs) issued against him and his wife by the same court for allegedly defrauding a mineral trader on pretext of making a film.

The court had earlier ordered Pupinder and wife to depose personally before it. However, the duo did not oblige the court directive following which the NBWs were issued against them.

The couple had borrowed Rs 30 lakh from the mining company, PK Ore Private Ltd, in 2013. Later, they refunded Rs 5 lakh cash and gave five bank cheques for rest of the amount. Of the five, validity of two cheques lapsed as these couldnot be deposited in bank in time. However, other three cheques of Rs 13 lakh bounced.

"My advocate is present here. He tried what is best for me.Accordingly I was granted bail. So, I am thankful to the court," Pupinder told media after coming out of the court.

Earlier, Pupinder said the matter has already been settled out of the court after many rounds of discussions. He further stated the mines trader is a relative of mine and will withdraw the case on Tuesday.
