Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate police was today allowed by the Bhubaneswar Sub Divisional Judicial Magistarte (SDJM) Court to take SUM Hospital owner Manoj Nayak on a two-day remand.

Nayak will be taken to the police remand from tomorrow.

While rejecting the bail plea of Nayak, the SDJM court sent the SUM Hospital owner to the judicial custody. Later he was taken to the Jharpada circle jail here.

After producing Nayak in the court, the commissionerate police had sought permission to take him on three-day remand to which the court allowed two-day remand.

The premises of the SDJM court was jam packed while Nayak was brought to the court amid tight security from the Khandagiri police station.

Notably, Nayak had surrendered at the Khandagiri police station at 3.30 am on Thursday.

After a brief questioning, Nayak was arrested on basis of a complaint lodged by the Fire services dept under Sec 304, 308, 285 and 34 of IPC.

On Monday, a major fire broke out at the ICU and Dialysis ward of the SUM Hospital causing death of 23 persons. Since then fingers are being raised against the hospital management for not ensuring fire safety measures at the hospital leading to the loss of lives.
