Bhubaneswar: Expediting its drive against illegal sale of liquor, police conducted raids on Dhirkut Slum in Mancheswar area in the city and seized huge cache of country and foreign liquor late Tuesday night. A woman was also arrested in this connection.

According to sources, during the police raid at around 1pm last night, huge quantities of liquor of different brands were seized from the slum. A total of 391 bottles of various foreign brands and as many as 494 Aska-40 packets were seized, the cost of which has been estimated to be more than Rs 2 lakh.

Later, Mancheswar Police arrested one woman, Mamata Roul, for illegal possession and sale of liquor in the area while further investigation is on, sources added.

“The total cost of liquor seized would be around Rs 2 lakh. We are investigating further to seize more such consignments and shut all the illegal liquor vending outlets,” said a police official.
