Bhubaneswar: Launching a scathing attack on the BJD government, BJP today alleged that the Bomikhal flyover collapsed due to rampant corruption in the Naveen Patnaik-led government.
Addressing a press conference here at the party headquarters, BJP MLA from Padampur, Pradeep Purohit said that the actual construction plan of the flyover was changed by the ruling party to get more commission while substandard materials were also used.
“The Bomikhal flyover design was ‘changed from L to T shape’ by the government which increased the construction cost to Rs 44 crore from Rs 20 crore. The shape was changed with the intention to get more commission. Besides, the errant firm has given a whopping Rs 10 crore for the 'Swabhiman Samabesh' of ruling-BJD,” alleged Purohit.

Purohit also said that a senior leader of BJD has a huge share in Panda Infra. The owner of Panda Infra was recently seen with the BJD leader Arun Sahu during the welcome event of the CM, who was returning from New Delhi after receiving the Outlook award. The CM is making tall claims of zero tolerance against corruption in government works but the reality is different; the practice is rampant in his own Works Department, alleged Purohit.
Purohit criticised the ‘Best Administrator’ award to Patnaik citing that the unholy nexus of the BJD government and the contractor is a glaring example of rampant corruption.
“Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik should take the responsibility as he holds the Works Department and resign on moral grounds like Suresh Prabhu who quit following the derailment incidents,” BJP demanded.

Similarly, Congress also lashed out at the BJD government on the flyover mishap.
“We had moved a motion in the Assembly to discuss the flyover collapse. But I was not given an opportunity to speak by the Speaker who was biased and blatantly supported the BJD government,” alleged Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra.
