Puri: A police inspector had a close shave today after his uniform caught fire when a group of protesters set ablaze the banner they held in protest against illegal encroachment of Swargadwara land here. However, the officer extinguished it and is stated to be safe.

The protesters led a rally under the banner of Puri Sachetan Nagarika Manch, a Puri-based social outfit, near  Bharat Sevasram square, waving black flags and burning effigy of chief minister Naveen Patnaik demanding encroachment free Swargadwar.

A sloganeering activist set ablaze the banner which came in contact with the IIC of Baselisahi police station due to proximity. The officer immediately managed to extinguish it. Meanwhile, six protestors have been detained and are being interrogated.
