Cuttack: Police officials on duty were attacked by villagers while they were conducting raids at Nuapada village under Sadar police limits to crack down on liquor mafias on Saturday night.

Two officials injured in the attack have been admitted to hospital.

Sub-inspector Krupasindhu Barala and assistant sub-inspector Ashok Patra were in civil dress while conducting the raid. Local people, including some women, engaged in a scuffle with the police officials. Taking advantage of the feud, the illegal liquor trader managed to flee, police said.

On being informed, additional forces reached the spot and rescued the two officers from the clutches of the locals.

Meanwhile, police have arrested seven women allegedly involved in the attack and forwarded them to court. Hunt is on to nab the other accused, sources said.
