Berhampur: Police today took arrested former Congress MLA Ramesh Jena on one-day remand for interrogation in a rape case filed by a widow in the city.

The Sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court had allowed the cops earlier for one day remand in the rape case.

A medical examination has been conducted on the former legislator before his interrogation, police said.

A woman from Gandhinagar area in the city had registered a rape case against Jena on April 9 alleging that she had been raped repeatedly by the ex-legislator since 2013.

"My husband was running a transport business and a liquor shop. At that time, Ramesh Jena used to extort money from him. My husband died of cerebral malaria in 2004. I tried to run the business but they scuttled my efforts. Later, I sold off the transport business and settled down in Berhampur”, she had said.

Jena, along with his associate Bidu Bisoi, had once come to her home. While Jena raped her Bisoi filmed the act, she had stated in the complaint. Since then he had been abusing her repeatedly and had threatened to upload the clip of the act on social site if she divulged the matter before anyone, the woman had alleged.

She said she mustered the courage and told her ordeal to Berhampur SP after police took strong action against Jena.
