Bhubaneswar: As part of its strategy to prevent arrested D-brothers to operate their crime syndicate from behind bars, the Commissionerate police is contemplating to shift Sushant Dhala Samanta from Jharpada jail to some other prison in the State.

As per reports, senior officials on Tuesday sought Cuttack JMFC court's permission to shift Sushant to a distant jail far away from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Sources said, he is likely to be lodged at a jail somewhere in Western Odisha preferably in Bolangir.

Sushant, who was arrested along with his brother Sushil Dhalasamanta in 2016 on charges of carrying out widespread network of criminal activities, is presently lodged in Jharpada jail while his brother Sushil is lodged in Choudwar jail.

Police apprehend that even though the two dreaded Dhalasamanta brothers are cooling their heels behind bars, they are still able to run their crime syndicate unhindered from behind the bars.

While investigating into the firing on a contractor and close aide of the D brothers, Bijay Kumar Pal, the police had found that Susant had orchestrated the attack through Mrutunjaya Nayak alias Miku who was later arrested in the case.

Apart from Miku, police had also arrested Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) corporator Ranjita Biswal for supply firearms to the prime accused and his associate for the firing on Pal.
