Balasore: In a bizarre incident, two police personnel including the Assistant Sub-Inspector of Saud police outpost under Bahanaga block of the district were allegedly roughed up by a couple in full public view when they stopped them at Anji Bazaar under Soro police limits during a helmet checking drive Sunday evening. The entire episode was recorded by a few locals present on the spot.

The incident occurred when ASI Sarat Chandra Dhal and another constable of the outpost Gangadhar Behera were deployed in the area to check the motorists violating the traffic rules. During the inspection, one Kasiruddin Shah along with his wife heading towards Sahaspur from Soro was stopped by police as he was reportedly driving without a helmet.

An argument ensued when the cops asked him for fine and in no time, the couple manhandled and slapped the on-duty cops, verbally abused them and began attacking them with footwear.

Shockingly, the incident took place in one of the busiest markets of the town, but none of the residents bothered to intervene rather people were seen enjoying the whole act. They alleged that the cops were in an inebriated condition and questioned with whose permission they launched helmet checking in the area.

Meanwhile, the Soro Police and Khantapada Police have initiated an investigation into the incident following a complaint by the two on-duty cops.
