Puri: The Police officer who attempted to touch the idol of Goddess Subhadra during the Niladri Bije ritual in Puri on July 6 was suspended today, informed DGP KB Singh.
The suspended officer identified as Amulya Dhar, the Inspector-In-Charge of Boudh police station, was suspended based on the report of Puri SP, said Singh. Dhar was accused of attempting to touch the deity during the Pahandi ceremony in the evening.
Earlier on July 9, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) had handed over CCTV footage of the incident to Kumbharpada police for further investigation into the allegations. SJTA had also given the CCTV footage to media after scrutiny.
The footage shows Dhar, former Inspector-In-Charge of Marine Police Station, being prevented by another police official while attempting to touch the deity.
It may be mentioned that IG (Central Range) was entrusted to conduct a detailed investigation into the allegations.
