Balasore: Former Remuna Inspector in Charge (IIC) Surendra Nayak, who is wanted in a Hanuman coin case, moved the Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail on Wednesday.
Earlier today, Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) Niti Sekhar ordered concerned officials to hold back Nayak’s salary and issued a notice asking him to depose as soon as possible.
According to reports, the SP served a notice to Nayak after he remained absent without permission and without informing his higher-ups about his whereabouts.
Talking to newsmen, the Balasore SP said, “As he is absent without unauthorisation, we will inform the Director General of Police (DGP) about it.”
“We have served him a recall notice and held back his salary,” Sekhar added.
Nayak, who has been accused of ransacking the house of a tribal in faraway Malakangiri in his search for an elusive Hanuman coin, fled from the Balasore district headquarters hospital on Tuesday.
The matter came to light after the hospital authorities filed a complaint with Town police station.
Police sources said Nayak was involved in trade in Hanuman coin during his tenure in Malkangiri police station. He was supposed to depose before the Balasore police in the matter on August 13.
He, however didn’t depose before the police, and visited a doctor at the district headquarters hospital on August 13 complaining of chest pain. The doctor at the hospital advised Nayak to get admitted to the hospital. But he didn’t turn up in the ward for treatment.
According to sources in the police, Nayak had barged into and ransacked the house of one Irma Madhi in Gotijodi village in Padmapur area of Malkangiri district in the company of three others looking for a Hanuman coin after a businessman from West Bengal offered him Rs 10 crore for it.
