Puri: Barely a week after its inauguration, the prepaid auto-rickshaw and taxi services at Puri railway station have come to a halt with the local auto-rickshaw drivers’ association strongly opposing the outsourcing bid.

The association is now up in arms against the move of the police officials for engaging a private party for managing the prepaid auto-rickshaw service.

According to reports, the local auto-rickshaw drivers’ association wants the service to be in direct control of the police while its operation and management charge should be given to their association.

“The private agency should not be allowed to operate the service as it is creating problems for the passengers and at the same time threaten their livelihood of the auto-rickshaw drivers,” said district auto-rickshaw drivers association, Durga Charan Khuntia.

Srikanta Parija, president of Nilakantha auto-rickshaw association claimed that they will not co-operate with police administration till their demands are not fulfilled.
