Bhubaneswar: Seeking to target the BJD government in the State and the NDA government at the Centrefor their alleged failures, Odisha Congress on Friday observed ‘Dhikkar Dibas’ across the state.

As part of the protest, the members of the Opposition party gheraoed block offices and collectors' offices across the state.

In Bhubaneswar, a group of activists led by Odisha Congress chief Prasad Harichandan had a scuffle with police when they attempted to enter the Block office in Bhubaneswar.

"Fifteen days ago, on the occasion of completion of two years of its fourth term, the ruling BJD government has submitted a report card which depicts progress in the state. Similarly, the Narendra Modi government is also observing ‘Vikas Utsav’ to commemorate two years of its government at the Centre. The people of the state have experienced vikas during the two-year governance of Modi and 17-year ruling of Naveen government,” said a sarcastic Harichandan.

“Actually, there has been no development in the state. While the people of as many as 25,000 villages are not getting drinking water, sale of liquor in these areas have increased. As many as 30 lakh people are yet to get electricity. There are no roads to 12,500 villages. 70 lakh eligible beneficiaries have not received NFSA card. Is this the development the BJD and BJP government are talking about?” asked Harichandan.

The party is observing the day protesting against the breach of privilege of its members in the Odisha Assembly. Besides, it has also raised the issue of indifference of the BJD government towards its ST, SC MLAs.

Meanwhile, pooh-poohing the move of the Congress, ruling BJD said the Congress should ‘Dhikkar’ itself first.
