Kandhamal: To protest the inaction of the State Government in the Gumudumaha firing that left five innocent villagers dead even a month after the incident, the opposition Congress party would launch a five-day Kandhamal Adhikar Yatra today.

The party would inaugurate the Yatra by hoisting the party flag at Gumudumaha. A public meeting is scheduled to be held at Kurttamgarh around noon.

After spending the night at Tumudibandha, party activists would resume the Yatra tomorrow. Many senior leaders of the party are scheduled to join the march that would culminate at Baliguda on August 13.

In its reaction to the Congress move, the BJD said the opposition party is just doing politics on the matter which is already being probed by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). It said the Yatra would have no impact.

“This is very unfortunate that the Congress is doing politics on the matter. The SIT is probing the incident and strong action will be taken against persons to be found guilty,” said BJD spokesperson Rabi Narayan Nanda.
