Chitrakonda: Congress activists led by former Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi are observing a dawn-to-dusk bandh in Chitrakonda today and have staged dharna in front of the office of tehsildar demanding speedy redressal of their grievances related to issuance of caste certificate, land rights to forest dwellers and house plot to homeless tribals.

Vehicular traffic in the block has been paralysed and educational institutions and business establishments have remained shut following the agitation. The protesters have blocked roads at different points burning tyres. They picketed in front of various government offices.

"The agitation will continue until our demands are met. Inordinate delay in issuing caste certificates deprived many students of education. Hundreds of tribal residents are yet to get land rights. Similarly, house plot to the homeless families is another demand," Congress leader Pradeep Majhi said.
