Cuttack: Congress workers alongwith local residents today protested before the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) over lack of sanitation and other civic amenities in the Millenium City that led to an ugly scuffle with the police.

Led by Cuttack Nagar District Congress President Mohammed Moquim, the activists staged protest before the civic body in large numbers and when policemen tried to stop them they clashed with the police.

"Cuttack residents are being neglected by the Municipal Corporation. JICA project ahs made it worse affecting lives of thousands. Congress workers visited various wards recently and found that even basic facilities like drinking water and sanitation are not reaching people. Drains are jammed leading to diseases like jaundice," said Moquim. "If the CMC does not act within the 15 days before monsoons we will make it defunct with agitation," he said.

Locals also joined in and said that there is urgent need to improve civic amenities. "In Khan Nagar, the drain is logged completely and is causing severe health issues. CMC is ignoring our repeated requests," said a local resident.
