Cuttack: Tension ran high on the premises of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) office after Congress corporator Arun Sethi allegedly thrashed BJD corporator Itishree Behera during a meeting on Friday.

According to sources, the incident took place when the Congress corporators staged a sit in inside a mosquito net during the meeting in a symbolic protest against the government’s failure to restrict the outbreak of dengue in the city.

BJD and Congress corporators had an altercation during the meeting following which Sethi allegedly thrashed Behera, sources added.

Following the incident, Behera has filed a case against Sethi.

"The BJD corporators tried to foil the discussion on dengue situation. When we protest, they thrashed and misbehaved with us in slangs. They have resorted to hooliganism in the office and not allowed to run the House", Congress Corporator Giribala Sahoo said.

BJD corporator Ramzan Khan said "The Opposition should maintain their role during a meeting. There is no rule of hanging mosquito nets in the council office to protest".
