Cong calls Sundargarh bandh tomorrow to protest C’garh barrage over Ib

Sundargarh: The district unit of Congress has called for a bandh tomorrow to protest against the plans of the Chhattisgarh to construct a barrage over Ib river, a tributary of Mahanadi, in the upper catchment area.

Dusmanta Kumar Naik, president, Sundargarh District Congress Committee, said, “Water will not come to lower catchment areas due to the proposed barrage. We will face a lot of difficulties due to this. We have called for a bandh here tomorrow to protest against the move.”

Expressing similar views, the Sundargarh District Lawyers’ Association threatened to launch an agitation if the barrage work is started. However, they said they will first write to the Chhattisgarh government requesting it to stop the work and apprise the Centre of the barrage.
