Bhubaneswar: With social media getting splattered with pictures from inside the Puri Srimandir more frequently, the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) continues to plug loopholes on entry of smartphones and camera phones inside the temple premises.

SJTA Administrator (Ritual), Pradip Kumar Das today informed that the authorities have decided to enforce a complete ban on entry of smartphones inside the temple premises from January 1, 2018.

“Smartphones and phones with camera will not be allowed inside the temple whosoever is the person concern. We have fixed January 1 as the tentative deadline to enforce the ban,” said Pradip.

With servitors banned from carrying phones with camera already, the restrictions will now be applicable to all including politicians, ministers, bureaucrats and VIPs as well. Even the rules will be applicable for ASI officials involved in temple repair works.

As per the new restrictions, apart from the SJTA-approved telecommunication devices all others devices found inside the premises will be liable for seizure.

According to sources, a letter to this effect has been sent to all the servitors’ associations.
