Salepur: A college student was critically injured in a firing by five miscreants allegedly over past political enmity near Kochilei ground under Nischintakoili block of Cuttack today.

A police complaint was lodged by the injured student of Barimula Delta College, Tapan Kumar Behera, alleging the miscreants attacked him over issues related to the recently held panchayat polls.

Behera, who has sustained bullet injuries in right leg, is undergoing treatment at the Nischintakoili Community Health Centre.

Elaborating the incident, Behera said, “The attackers came in two motorcycles to the bridge near the Kochilei ground where I was sitting. One of them told me: ‘You are here’ and suddenly pulled out a gun and fired at me.”

He added the attackers had been holding a grudge against him from the panchayat poll days.

The local police have initiated a probe into the incident on basis of the complaint filed by Behera.
