Talking to the media, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said at present, the blowing of northern wind from the Himalayan region across Odisha begins at night and continues till 9-10 AM till next morning. Since there has been intense cold in the Himalayan and sub Himalayan region, there has been a sharp fall in night temperature in most parts including the coastal region of Odisha since last two days.

“Another factor for cold wave in Odisha is due to clear weather condition which has helped the surface heat go up to the upper atmosphere,” he added.
