Bhubaneswar: The intense cold wave, which is presently sweeping across Odisha, will prevail till next 48 hours, the local Met office said here today.
Talking to the media, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said at present, the blowing of northern wind from the Himalayan region across Odisha begins at night and continues till 9-10 AM till next morning. Since there has been intense cold in the Himalayan and sub Himalayan region, there has been a sharp fall in night temperature in most parts including the coastal region of Odisha since last two days.
“Another factor for cold wave in Odisha is due to clear weather condition which has helped the surface heat go up to the upper atmosphere,” he added.
As per a Met release this morning, Sundargarh recorded 7 degree Celsius while Bhubaneswar recorded 12.6 degree Celsius. Besides, temperature has remained below 10 degree Celsius in most parts of interior and western Odisha while in the coastal region the average fall in night temperature is .5 degree Celsius.
However, the cold condition in Odisha would prevail till next 48 hours after which there will be a marginal increase in the night temperature, the release added.
