Bhubaneswar: Two days prior to the Hockey World League finals, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday unveiled the official logo and mascot for the Hockey Men's World Cup 2018 to be held here at Bhubaneswar from November 18 to December 26, 2018 at the Kalinga Stadium.

Patnaik also launched the ceremonial countdown clock for the international event that is scheduled after a year.

“I feel privileged to have unveiled the logo for the International Hockey World Cup. A few months ago, Bhubaneswar hosted the Asian Athletics Championships. In a few months from now, we will be hosting the Hockey World Cup," Patnaik said.

"Odisha is fast becoming a destination for International Sports events. I wish all the participants the best of luck in the forthcoming International event," added Patnaik.

During the event, Patnaik felicitated outstanding sportspersons of the state and gave away cash awards to as many as 59 sportspersons with a total incentive of Rs 76.75 lakh. Odia Hockey players Dipsan Tirkey, Amit Rohidas, Lilima Minz, Namita Toppo, Deep Grace Ekka, Sunita Lakra and Rashmita Minz were felicitated and awarded cash prizes of Rs 7.5 lakh each as members of the champion team in Men's and Women's Asia Cup 2017 respectively.

Chief Secretary AP Padhi, Additional Chief Secretary R Balakrishnan, MP Prasanna Patasani, Sports Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera and Sports and Youth Affairs Department Secretary Vishal Dev were also present at the event.
