Bhubaneswar: Expressing concern over loss of human lives due to lightning and other natural calamities, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged the Centre for expeditious installation of two Doppler radars at Sambalpur and Balasore at the earliest.

In a letter to Harsh Vardhan, the Union Minister of Earth Sciences, Science and Technology, Patnaik raked up the issue of delay in setting up of the advanced weather systems at both the districts in State.

Though the Government of India had earlier decided for installation of four Doppler Weather Radars in 2006, only two have been installed and made operational at Paradip and Gopalpur.

The advanced systems would play a crucial role in real time weather forecast, tracking of local storms, thunderstorms in Northern and Western pockets of Odisha.
