Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government on Monday constituted an ‘Oversight Committee’ for successful implementation of ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’ against corruption in social and welfare schemes in the State.

The Committee headed by Chief Secretary will oversee the ongoing pre-emptive drives being launched against corruption, basically collection of percentage commission (PC).

At a high level meeting held on Monday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik once again reiterated for preventive measures to put a check on corruption and directed officials to maintain a strict vigil on various schemes.

Patnaik directed officials to ensure that the rights of the weaker sections are protected by ensuring rural housing schemes, Niramaya Yojana, Janani Suraksha Yojana, and ICDS programmes reach the beneficiaries.

Official sources said that several block and district committees will also be formed to conduct field surveys and ensure transparency in developmental and welfare schemes.

The committees will hold meetings at regular intervals and submit reports with the Vigilance Department, which will scrutinise the reports. The Vigilance Department will then inform the departments concerned about the irregularities, said an official.

The Vigilance Department so far has 38 cases after 197 spot inquiries against 560 complaints that it received regarding irregularities in rural housing schemes.

Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had advised collectors on improving citizen centric service delivery through use of 3T- teamwork, transparency and technology in June this year.
