Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today launched the Odisha Municipal Cadre as per which 3,213 posts will be created in eight different services.

The new appointments will be made in the areas of health, cleanliness, finance and e-governance under the municipal cadre launched by Patnaik during a workshop on excellent civic governance organised by the Urban Development department as part of the year-long celebration of the birth centenary of former chief minister Biju Patnaik here.

The chief minister also launched the Plan Plus Action software for preparation of schemes for infrastructure development in urban local bodies (ULBs) and proper management of funds.

Speaking on the occasion, Patnaik said, “Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) occupy an important role in our development process. Today, 27 ULBs were felicitated for their good work. I expect all of them to work dedicatedly to meet the demands of an ever increasing population.”

Talking about the new software unveiled, Puspendra Singhdeo, Urban Development Minister, said, “After recruiting the staff, the officers will be held accountable to the government.”

He added, “The infrastructure of the ULBs will be examined through the Plan Plus software and plans can be prepared accordingly. Similarly, the action plus software will help examine the funds available under the scheme and execution of plans and the stage they are in. This will help in reviewing the schemes.”

Notably, in November last year, the State Cabinet had approved a proposal of the Housing and Urban Development department to form of an independent special municipal cadre.
