Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday approved 'Sudaksya' yojna to encourage women and girls in Odisha to pursue technical education courses. The programme will run for the financial year 2017-18 and 2018-19.

The programme aims to enroll nearly 5000 girls in the 48 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in State by the end of 2017-18. It targets to increase enrollment of girls by 30 percent in the ITIs.

Girls and women who have cleared their matriculation are eligible to take admission in the ITIs.

“Government will introduce ‘Sudaksya’ to financially empower women and girls. They will be provided various kinds of training at 48 government ITIs in State the financial year 2017-18 and 2018-19. Through the programme the Chief Minister wants the women and girls in Odisha to stand on their own feet and strengthen their financial status,” said BJD spokesperson Sulochana Das.
