Bhubaneswar: Passengers of Puri-Lokmanyatilak Express narrowly escaped a mishap today as the Mumbai bound train took wrong route from Raja Athagarh station and was made to divert back to Dhenkanal due to alleged negligence of station master.

The Railways suspended the station master for dereliction of duty following a prima facie report. “Prima facie it seems a grave human error. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident,’’ said spokesperson, East Coast Railway.

After taking the wrong track, the train ran till Radhakishorepur from where it diverted back to Dhenkanal and took the scheduled path, sources said.

The incident occurred on the day when Azamgarhg-Delhi Kaifiyat Express derailed in the morning in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh leaving around 50 injured. Four days ago, the Kalinga Utkal Express derailed at Muzzafarnagar in UP killing 23 passengers and injuring  50 including five from Odisha.
