Puri: Historical Emar Mutt today woke up to a sad morning after a portion of its boundary wall adjacent to Mati Mandap Sahi caved in following heavy rains in the pilgrim town for the last couple of days.

A house adjacent to the wall also collapsed. Some mutt officials had a close shave as they were asleep in a room close to the collapsed house.

The incident caused inconvenience for the pilgrims as the road to Srimandir was closed.

The wall became weak due to incessant rains and failed to withstand pressure after heavy downpour on Tuesday. The mutt staffs are in a state of fear after the incident. They demanded immediate steps to repair the broken part of the boundary.

Local councillor Sabita Mishra informed the civic body officials following which they swung into action and cleared the road.

"Where would we go now? We should be rehabilitated inside the mutt," mutt staff Bijay Laxmi Mishra said.
