Nayagarh: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested senior clerk of Odagaon block office Bijay Kumar Giri while he was taking a bribe of Rs 500.

According to sources, one Kashinath Prdhan had done a construction work worth Rs 1 lakh under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD).

Giri had asked Pradhan to give him a bribe of Rs 500 to process the file for return of the Rs 3,000 security money. Pradhan had filed a complaint in this regard with the district Vigilance.

Following the complaint, the anti-corruption wing of Odisha Police laid a trap and arrested the senior clerk while he was taking the bribe from Pradhan, the sources added.

Harmohan Pati, DSP, Vigilance said, “Kashinath Prdhan of Odagaon block had done a construction work worth Rs 1 lakh under MPLAD fund in 2010-11. Though, Pradhan had got the bill, he is yet to receive the security money of Rs 3,000.”

“The senior clerk of the block Bijay Kumar Giri had asked Pradhan for a Rs 500 bribe to clear a file,” Pati added.

Besides, the investigating team also raided the house of the clerk in the district and produced him before the Vigilance court in Bhubaneswar.
