Class XII student meets watery grave in Puri

Puri: A Class XII student of a private English medium school in Bhubaneswar drowned to death while taking bath in the sea at Jahania near Astaranga in Puri district today.

As per sources, Pratik Mohapatra, a Class XII student of Khandagiri-situated St Xavier School, was part of a school picnic party. He had gone to the sea with some friends and had drowned while taking bath. He was rescued by locals and admitted to Astaranga Primary Health Centre (PHC) and later shifted to Nimapara Community Health Centre (CHC) where doctor declared him brought dead.

Not a single school staff was reportedly present while the students were taking a bath in the sea.

Meanwhile, Pratik's parents and the school management have reached the hospital.

It has been alleged that even if there are many frequently visited picnic spots in the district, the administration is not taking adequate steps for the security of the tourists visiting these areas.
