Bhubaneswar: As part of the ongoing reforms in the country’s education system, Class X board examinations will be reintroduced said Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar at a press meet in Odisha’s Puri today.

Besides, reintroduction the board examination for class X students, it has also been decided to conduct examinations in classes V and VIII, said Javadekar adding that schools will also detain students who fail the end-term exams in these classes.

The students, however, will be allowed to improve and appear for another exam before being detained, he added. At present, students until Class VIII are promoted to the next class irrespective of their performance.

25 States have approved the move of the Union Government through a bill which has been placed in the Lok Sabha, Javadekar said.

“We have taken four major steps for ensuring quality education for all in various schools and one such step -learning outcomes-will be introduced from next month,” said Javadekar.

Javadekar also informed that 15 lakh BEd teachers have registered under the Swayam programme in which they would be given proper training.
