Paralakhemundi: A Class 8 girl has gone missing from school since February 1 at Gundima village under Adaba police limits in Gajpati district.

As per a complaint lodged by the family, the girl left for school on February 1 but did not return. They alleged that a youth of Birikote village kidnapped the girl, a student of Gundima Model School. Later, a case was registered with the Adaba police based on the complaint.

Meanwhile, the school authorities said the girl has remained absent since February 2 and they are unaware of the reason behind it.

“She comes from Katama via bus. She mostly remains irregular. We don't have any idea of the reason for her absence,” said assistant teacher K Jugal Kishore.

Police said investigation into the incident is on full swing.

“Her father lodged a police complaint after he failed to trace his daughter. We registered a case on the basis of the complaint and have started investigation,” said Adaba police station IIC Mukesh Lakra.
