City cops form special team to probe Rishi’s death

Bhubaneswar: A day after the kin demanded re-investigation into the death of Ashutosh Mohanty alias Rishi, the commissionerate police, which registered case as an unnatural death, has formed a special team to probe the mysterious death of the engineering student.

The team will be headed by ACP (zone-3) Tapan Patnaik. All friends of the deceased’s, girl friend and his roommate and others who were closely associated with him will be summoned for interrogation, DCP Satyabrat Bhoi said.

The BJP and Congress on yesterday took to streets and demanded a high level probe into the death case while Rishi’s mother demanded an inquiry into the links of her son’s death with the sex scandal video clip, which has gone viral on social media. The family members also demanded that police should investigate the love affair of Rishi and interrogate his girlfriend and a hostel mate.

The Student wing of State Congress, which had circulated video clips, alleged that sex scandal video tape has links with Rishi’s death and demanded an impartial probe into the entire incident.

Meanwhile, the State BJP has called for ‘chaka Jam’ stir at all urban bodies across the State for two hours tomorrow over the sex scandal case. The BJP Yuva Morcha will picket at Raj Mahal square in Bhubaneswar in the evening on Sunday.

Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has dubbed the allegation against the Mayor serious.

“The charges against the Mayor would be considered grave if it is based on specific evidence. Rishi’s death has raised much suspicion. Local probe agency seems to have given less emphasis to the case and attempted to suppress it”, Pradhan said.

He alleged the involvement of some influential persons in the whole episode. “Influential people are allegedly involved in the case. If it is not investigated properly, people would lose trust on the system”, he added.
