Rayagada: The district administration has decided to set up health camps at four villages in the Niyamgiri area where 10 people died because of Cholera till date.
Talking to news men after a review meeting at the Kesingpur Community Health Centre (CHC), Rayagada Collector Guha Punam Tapash Kumar yesterday said, “An administrative team met at the CHC and took a decision to hold medical camps at Gumma, Parsali, Buduni, Tebapada villages within two days. Doctors and paramedic teams will be stationed at the camps along with medical supplies. The camp will be organised for one month.”
Besides, free kitchen will be set up at the four villages and boiled water will be provided, the collector added.
“The level of literacy and awareness is in poor state in the area. A long term action plan has to be worked out to sort the matter out,” the collector elaborated.
“The villagers are eating beef after drying it up which is why they are suffering from diarrohea and dysentery,” she added.
Meanwhile, locals alleged doctors reached the area late when deaths were reported and that too without medicines to distribute.
Ramo Sikaka, a Niyamgiri resident, said, “In our area, people died after suffering from repeated vomiting and loose motion. As our villages are located at faraway places, we are unable to bring patients to the hospital quickly. Though we inform doctors to visit our villages, they do not pay any heed. Medicines are also not supplied to us. So far, 10 people have died in the Niyamgiri area.”
A week earlier, residents of Bhamberi village had left their houses after four people died in their locality fearing effect of any evil spirit. But later they returned home after worshipping deities.
