Bhubaneswar: Almost three months after it came to fore that a huge amount of money was sent to the bank account of ex- MP Pradeep Majhi’s father Bhagwan Majhi, also a former parliamentarian, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Tuesday lodged a formal complaint before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) alleging the involvement of Bhagwan in the Seashore chit fund case.

Nabrangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi along with three of his party MLAs of Chintrakonda, Malkangiri and Umerkote lodged a complaint with the Central investigating agency in this regard.

“In the past media reported that huge amount was sent from Seashore Group to the bank accounts of former MP Bhagawan Majhi and his son Prasanna Majhi. We have in possession some documents which suggest the bank transaction,” Balabhadra Majhi said.

The parliamentarian stated that they hope the country’s premier investigation agency will take up the matter seriously.

“It (CBI) has accepted our complaint. We hope that appropriate steps would be taken by the investigating agency.  Though it was reported in media in the past, a formal complaint was not made before it. Now we can hope the CBI will take up the issue seriously,” he maintained.

In July it was reported that Seshore had transferred Rs 35 lakh and Rs 1.62 crore to the accounts of Bhagaban Majhi and Prasanna Majhi, respectively, in 2010 and 2011. Bhagaban Majhi had then explained that the amount was paid towards maize sold to Seashore Agricultural Promotion Company Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Seashore Group.

Commenting on the issue Pradeep Majhi had then claimed that the allegation is false and baseless.
