Bhubaneswar: The chit fund commission probing the multi-crore chit fund scam in the state is likely to submit an interim report to the government on Wednesday.

According to sources, the secretary of Justice M M Das, who is heading the commission, is supposed to meet the Home department secretary today and submit the interim report.

In its interim report, the commission has recommended the process of how to return the money invested in chit fund companies by small investors, the sources added.

According to sources, the commission has prepared the report basing on 26,976 out of the more than 8 lakh affidavits filed with it.

Based on the affidavits filed between August 5 to 21 in 2013, the commission has identified the investors, who had invested less than Rs 10,000 in various chit fund companies, as small investors.

On July 9, 2013, the Odisha government had formed a one-man commission headed by retired judge of Orissa High Court Justice RK Patra to probe the chit fund scam. But, after the demise of Justice Patra, on February 5 in 2015, the government appointed retired Judge of Orissa High Court Justice MM Das as the head of the commission.
