Puri: The Childline today rescued a minor girl near a tree at Loknath Road in the town. The girl belongs to Bhatli area of Bargarh district.

Childline officials said the girl was working at the home of a woman police official at Baliapanda road. "We have registered a case with district labour officer as the case came under child labour category. Mental and physical torture was also inflicted on her", Puri Childline director Debasis Rath said.

The girl alleged that her father sold her off for Rs 2000. "My father forced me to work here. I clean home, wash utensils and do other household works every day," she said.

Panicked, she escaped from the cop's house and took shelter under a tree. Locals found her crying and informed the Childline officials.

After being rescued, she was admitted to district headquarters hospital as she complained of neck pain. "She has no other external injuries. Still, we have kept her under observation,” Assistant District Medical Officer Prabhat Sahu said.
