Berhampur: Demanding arrest of BJP leader Golak Mohapatra in connection with Chhatrapur Councillor Laxmidutta Pradhan’s murder case, BJD activists staged a demonstration in front of the office of IG (southern range) here today.

Alleging hooliganism by the saffron party, the activists burnt effigies of Mohapatra and shouted slogans against him and even Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Later, a team of the activists submitted a memorandum to IG (southern range) Ghanashyam Upadhyaya demanding Mohapatra's arrest. Berhampur Mayor K Madhavi, Berhampur and Chhatrapur MLAs and several party workers took part in the protest.

According to media reports, Mohapatra had been in touch with Krushna Nayak, the key accused in the murder case, on the very day of the brutal killing. The reports also alleged that the BJP leader had talked to the accused over phone multiple times before and after the crime.

On the other hand, police will take Krushna Nayak and Duryadhan Reddy, arrested earlier for conspiring the Chhatrapur Councillor's murder, on a remand today to further investigate into the incident. The cops will grill the two over their statements and Call Detail Records (CDR).

The Ganjam police had arrested the two accused from Uttarakhand on October 28.
