Bhubaneswar: Almost three and half months after arresting notorious pimp Sunil Meher, who had been running high-profile sex racket in Odisha and other states, from Kolkata, Commissionerate police on Friday filed a charge sheet against him.

In the 300-page charge sheet, the police has also named nine of his city-based aides, who were working as agents for him. Sunil has over 100 such agents across the country who work as ‘middlemen’ between customers and sex workers, including foreign girls.

“Several cases have been filed against him (Sunil) in many police stations. The investigations in all the cases are almost complete. I hope that charge sheets will be filed in all the cases in the next 10-15 days,” Twin City Commissioner YB Khurania said.

DCP Satyabrata Bhoi informed that cases under Section 370 (clause 1), 109 and 34 of IPC and 3578 of Suppression of Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act have been slapped against Meher.

“We will try to get his conviction,” Bhoi said.

Police sources said Meher was wanted in three cases since July 2015.

A total of 12 cases have been registered against Meher, who has been arrested at least seven times in Odisha since 2010. Police said he had links with almost all sex rackets busted in the past few months. Police also strongly suspect Meher's links to an international sex racket busted at Chandrasekharpur area here on March 23.

A 30-year-old Kyrghyz woman was rescued and a pimp, owing allegiance to Meher was also arrested during a raid conducted by commissionerate police.

Police suspect the sex business fetched Meher nearly Rs 10 lakh a month as he used to supply call girls to high-heeled clients in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. He charged not less than Rs 5,000 per woman for a night. Some of the high-end call girls and 'paid girlfriends' used to charge a whopping Rs 5 lakh a night, commisonerate police sources said.

Sources said Meher started operating from Kolkata since 2011 after being arrested twice in 2010. His luck ran out when he was arrested by police in Kolkata in December 2011. Police said Meher, whose family is settled in Berhampur, is married.
