Champua: The members of the Champua panchayat samiti in Keonjhar have resigned en masse protesting the callousness and whimsical working style of the Block Development Officer (BDO).

While Champua Block Chairman Motilal Singh Laguri submitted his resignation to the district collector, the other 21 samiti members of the block submitted their resignation to the BDO. As per the agitating members, BDO Kushal Chandra Nayak has been neglecting them in various developmental projects.

“The problem arose when the Panchayat Samiti members wanted a say in the Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana. However, the BDO wanted to do it all on his own and the Panchayat Samiti members didn’t favour it. If the BDO wants to do everything, why should I be the captain of the team. Hence, I resigned,” said the Block chairman.

In his defense, the BDO said that all the developmental works are being carried out as per government guidelines.

“The members were trying to force their writ in the Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana and wanted their people to get the projects. I have followed the guidelines of the government. They have taken this step out of fear that their own people might not get the project,” said BDO Kushal Chandra Nayak.
