Bhubaneswar: The hunger for a lavish life and lust for bar girls have landed a chain snatching gang of five youths including a minor in jail.

As per reports, the minor member was an expert in high-speed bike driving and the gang was operating in the Smart city and used to decamp with chains and mobile phones from people. The gang then used to sell the looted items and spend the money on bar girls.

While the minor used to ride the bike, other members used to be pillions and focus on soft targets to snatch valuables. They also used to attack the victims with iron rod in case of any resistance, said sources.

Acting on a tip-off, police on Monday caught the criminals red-handed when they were trying to sell gold chains in the city. Later, police seized four gold chains, one diamond earring and 10 high-end mobile phones from their possession.

Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Kumar Sahu informed that the gang was mostly involved in snatching chains and mobile phones between Palaspalli and Khandagiri area (on the highway).

"They are mostly young people. They used to loot to sustain their drugs, drinking and other bad habits. After a detailed interrogation, we found out that they are involved in as many as five cases in Khandagiri only," Sahu added.
