Bhubaneswar: The project-wise details of Rs 5,102 crore allocation made in the 2017 Union Budget for various rail projects in State revealed that the center has allocated Rs 700 crore for the Khurda-Bolangir railway project.

According to ECoR sources, among others Rs 275 crore budget allocation made for Jeypore-Nabrangpur rail project. While Rs 250 crore has been allocated for Talcher-Bimalagarh rail project, the Haridaspur-Paradip rail project has got Rs 200 cr. The Angul-Sukinda Road rail project has been granted Rs 200 crore, Rs 79 crore for Jeypore-Malkangiri rail project, Rs 5 crore for Lanjigarh Road-Junagarh rail project and Rs 1.5 cr for Daitati-Banspani rail project.

The centre has also approved Rs 935.72 crore for Nuapada-Gunupur new broad-gauge line (extended up to Thiruvalli).

While the budget has allocated Rs 186.37 crore for Electric loco POH workshop at Kalahandi, Rs 49.16 crore has been allocated for freight train maintenance facility (RoH depo) at Maneswar under Sambalpur division.

Moreover, budgetary provisions have been made for a foot over bridge at Bhubaneswar Railway Station and bridges near Khetarajpur in Sambalpur and Bhadrak station.

“A staggering Rs 5,847.10 crore has been allocated for the East Coast Railway (ECoR) as a whole,” said ECoR GM, Umesh Singh.

Notably, Odisha has been allocated Rs 5,102 crore for development of Railways in the Union Budget for 2017-18 against the state’s demand of Rs 5,870 crore.

The allocation made for the year 2017-18 is about 9 per cent more than the previous year’s allocation of Rs 4,682 crore

Neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh and Chhattishgarh have been allocated Rs 3,406 crore and 3,676 crore respectively, sources said.
