Cuttack: On the call of Odisha State Bar Council, cease work stir will be staged by all the lawyers across State today, against the Advocates Act, 1961 amendment proposal given by the Bar Council of India (BCI).

BCI chairman Manan Kumar Mishra, has already completed his tenure. But as he gave the Advocates Act amendment proposal without consulting any other members of the BCI, the State Bar Council is protesting it.

Notably, National Law Commission has already accepted the proposal of the BCI and has sent it near Central Government for amendment. On the other hand, Odisha State Bar Council has requested the Centre to not approve the proposal.

Manas Ranjan Mohapatra, Chairman, Odisha State Bar Council, talking to media persons in a press meet yesterday said, "Bar Council of India, giving such a proposal to Law Commission on its own, without consulting anyone, is being protested by Odisha State Bar Council. And in objection we have requested all lawyers in State to protest it, by remaining absent from work."
